Essential highlights of NMIMS School of Design
NMIMS School of Design was established in 2017 as a constituent of SVKM’s NMIMS (Deemed-to-be University), Mumbai offers an immersive undergraduate design education through its B.Des. (Humanising Technology) and B.Sc. in Animation & VFX programs, both spanning four years and aimed at integrating design thinking with technology, user experience, and multimedia. The institution holds NAAC accreditation with an A+ grade (CGPA ~3.59) and is approved by AICTE, with recognition from UGC and the MHRD/UGC Category I university status.
A hallmark of the School is its student achievements in design competitions: in 2020, B.Des students Arushi Shukla, Damiya Jaswani, and Shweta Mandwale were runners-up in the Social Impact category at the Core77 Design Awards, the selection being from over 49 countries. Other notable victories include “Circular Fashion,” which won a cash prize of INR 75,000 in the QED 2020 competition.
The school’s exceptional facilities foster hands‑on creativity and experimentation: it features Wi‑Fi‑enabled smart studios with projection, a Tinkering Lab (equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and sensors), a Rapid Prototyping Lab (including CNC milling), an XR Reality Lab with high-end computing and head-mounted devices, and notably, one of the only Usability Labs in India dedicated to user‑centric testing. The R. M. Desai Library, spanning roughly 7,000 sq ft with seating for 130 and computerised via Koha software, supports multidisciplinary learning with resources across design, technology, science, and management.
