Essential highlights of Gujarat Ayurveda University
Gujarat Ayurveda University (GAU), located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, was established in 1965 by an Act of the state government as the world’s first statutory university dedicated to Ayurvedic education and research. Over the decades, GAU has earned numerous distinctions: it is recognized as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine (Ayurveda) and designated as the National Pharmacovigilance Resource Centre for Ayurveda, Siddha & Unani drugs by the Department of AYUSH. Its constituent Institute of Postgraduate Teaching & Research in Ayurveda (IPGT & RA) publishes the peer‑reviewed, PubMed‑indexed AYU journal, and has digitized hundreds of rare Ayurvedic manuscripts.
The university offers programs including undergraduate (BAMS, B.Pharm, B.Sc. in Yoga), postgraduate (MD, MS, M.Pharm, M.Sc., postgraduate diplomas, certificate courses), and Ph.D. levels through institutes such as IPGT & RA, the Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, the International Center for Ayurvedic Studies, and the University School of Continuing Education.
