Established on May 1, 1948 on the recommendation of the BC Roy Committee, AFMC began as a postgraduate military medical training institution; its undergraduate wing was added on August 4, 1962. As Asia’s first tri-service medical college, it provides comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate education (MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing, PG diplomas, M.Sc., MD/MS, DM/M.Ch., Ph.D.) and paramedical training, and is recognized by the Medical Council of India and affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. AFMC has achieved several significant accreditations and awards: it earned a prestigious NAAC “A+” grade with a CGPA of 3.45 -- 3.51, the highest ever among Indian medical colleges, and holds NABL accreditation for its biochemistry lab. In December 2023, President Droupadi Murmu presented the institution with the President’s Colour, marking its platinum jubilee, and in March 2024 it received the Chief of Defence Staff Unit Citation.
