West Bengal State University (WBSU) Barasat was established in 2008 under the West Bengal State Universities Act (functional from the 2008–09 session), with its foundation day on 25 February 2008. Over the years, WBSU has made significant strides in academics and research: it comprises 31 postgraduate teaching departments spanning language, literature, social sciences, science, commerce, and management, supported by over 96% faculty holding PhDs, and has awarded around 130 PhDs in its first three convocations. WBSU received UGC recognition under Section 12B and secured NAAC accreditation in February 2021.
