Karnatak University, Dharwad was established in October 1949, via the Karnataka University Act, and came into statutory existence on March 1, 1950. It is the second oldest university in Karnataka, after the University of Mysore, and originally served a vast jurisdiction across northern Karnataka. The university has been recognized under the University Grants Commission’s “Potential for Excellence” scheme and, in October 2022, was accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC earning a CGPA of 3.13, the highest among Karnataka universities at that time. Karnataka University offers a wide spectrum of programmes including undergraduate (BA, BSc, BCom), postgraduate (MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, M.Ed, LLM, MSW), diplomas, PG diplomas, M.Phil., and PhD programmes across faculties such as Arts, Science & Technology, Social Science, Commerce, Education, Law, and Management.
