Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai is a Central Government University set up by an Act of Parliament in November 2008 headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Being the best maritime institution in India, IMU is focusing on creating intelligent human resources in the shipping, port, logistics and allied industries. The university provides undergraduate (B.Sc. Nautical Science, BBA in Maritime Logistics), postgraduate (MBA in Port and Shipping, M.Tech in Marine Engineering) and diploma (DNS, GME) courses, as well as research and doctoral courses.
Most programs are admitted on the basis of the IMU Common Entrance Test (CET) at the national level, except that some courses follow direct applications. IMU Chennai provides courses: B.Sc. Nautical Science, BBA in Maritime Logistics, MBA in Port and Shipping Management, M.Tech in Marine Engineering and also pre-sea diplomas such as DNS and GME. There is the general eligibility of 10 + 2 (PCM to B.Sc, any stream to BBA, graduation to PG), with selection mostly based on IMU CET but in some eligible programs, into direct application. Admission to IMU Chennai during 2025-26 (academic year) is largely dependent on IMU Common Entrance Test (CET) to the broad selection of UG programs and PG. The candidates can only apply online via the IMU CET portal, register by submitting required documents and take the entrance test on the stipulated date. The merit list would be published on the official website, and invited candidates will be required to attend a counseling session, verify the documents, and also pay an admission fee, which would bag them their seat. In certain diploma courses (DNS,GME), direct applications are permitted, according to the admission notice.
