Which agencies rank DTU
Not all rankings are the same. Some are run by the government, some by global research firms, and some by magazines. Here is who ranks DTU and what their number is based on.
| Agency | Type | Latest rank | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|

| The Times | Media survey | #1 (2022) | An independent ranking of Indian institutions. |
| NIRF | Government | #27 (2024) | NIRF is the government's own ranking, run by the Ministry of Education. |
How DTU has moved
In India Today's engineering list, DTU moved from #7 in 2021 to #9 in 2023 — down 2 places and In NIRF's engineering list, DTU moved from #35 in 2022 to #27 in 2024 — up 8 places.
One year's change is not worth much on its own — agencies adjust how they score things, and a college can move a few places without anything real changing. A steady direction over three or four years is the part worth reading.
What these ranks mean for you
A rank tells you how a college compares on the things an agency chose to measure. It does not tell you whether the course you want is good here, whether the faculty in your branch are strong, or whether companies that hire for your field come to this campus. Two colleges ten places apart in a table can be very different for one particular branch.
Use the ranking to build a shortlist, then check the things that actually decide your four years: the 89 courses on offer, the fees, the placement record for your branch, and the cutoffs you would need. All of those are on the other tabs of this page.
How to read a ranking table
- Check the stream, not just the overall rank. A college can be #3 overall and #12 in the branch you want.
- Check who is doing the ranking. A government ranking and a magazine survey are measuring different things.
- Check the year. Ranks from three years ago describe a different batch than the one you will join.
- Check how many colleges were ranked. #50 out of 100 and #50 out of 2,000 are not the same result.
