B.Des. in Interior Design at SSIU

SSIU, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, offers B.Des. in Interior Design as a 4-year undergraduate degree. There are 30 seats in each batch.

Expect to spend most of your time on design thinking, drawing, materials and digital tools, built around a portfolio of studio projects.

SSIU is a other institute, founded in 2017. This page brings together what is on record for this course at SSIU — fees, seats, eligibility, the admission route and placements — so you can judge it before you apply.

Most B.Des programmes follow a similar pattern: the first year builds the foundations, the middle years go deep into the subject, and the final year is given over to electives, a major project and usually an internship.

Here that means design thinking, drawing, materials and digital tools, built around a portfolio of studio projects. Typical first jobs: designer roles in product, fashion, communication or UX. Many graduates also go on to a master's degree.

The exact syllabus is set by the college or its affiliating university and changes from year to year, so ask SSIU for the current semester-wise plan.

SSIU has not published a fee for B.Des. in Interior Design on our record yet. When you ask, ask for the total across all 4 years — not just the first-year figure — and whether hostel and exam fees are included.

To get into B.Des. in Interior Design, you usually need Class 12 in any stream. The minimum marks on record at SSIU are: X: 0.0, XII: 45.0, Graduation: 0.0.

Admission to this kind of course is usually through UCEED, NID DAT and NIFT. Reserved-category candidates generally get a relaxation in the minimum marks. Check SSIU's prospectus for the exact cut-off this year.

In most years, admission follows these steps:

1. Check that you meet the eligibility above and register for the entrance exam in time.
2. Take UCEED, NID DAT and NIFT and keep your scorecard.
3. Apply to SSIU on its website (www.swarrnim.edu.in) or through the enquiry form on this page, and take part in counselling if a state or central body runs it.
4. Once you are offered a seat, verify your documents (marksheets, ID, category certificate if any) and pay the admission fee to confirm it.

The most recent placement data we hold (2023) show an average package of ₹5.18 lakh and a highest package of ₹30 lakh at SSIU. 900 students were placed that year. These are college-wide figures, not only for this specialisation.

Placement numbers vary a lot by year and by branch. Ask the placement cell for the branch-wise report of the last two batches.

SSIU runs 5 B.Des specialisations in all. If this one is not quite right, compare it with:

• B.Des. in User Experience (UX)
• B.Des. in Fashion Design
• B.Des. in Visual and Digital Communication Design
• B.Des. in Product Design

Ask yourself — and the college — these questions first:

• Are you genuinely interested in design thinking? You will spend 4 years on it.
• What will the full course cost, including hostel and living costs?
• Are the placement figures above good enough for your goals? Ask for the branch-wise numbers.
• How does SSIU compare with other colleges offering B.Des in and around Ahmedabad?
