Most B.Des programmes follow a similar pattern: the first year builds the foundations, the middle years go deep into the subject, and the final year is given over to electives, a major project and usually an internship.

Here that means design thinking, drawing, materials and digital tools, built around a portfolio of studio projects. Typical first jobs: designer roles in product, fashion, communication or UX. Many graduates also go on to a master's degree.

The exact syllabus is set by the college or its affiliating university and changes from year to year, so ask MKBU for the current semester-wise plan.

MKBU has not published a fee for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) on our record yet. When you ask, ask for the total across all 3 years — not just the first-year figure — and whether hostel and exam fees are included.

A few questions worth answering before you apply:

• Are the placement figures above good enough for your goals? Ask for the branch-wise numbers.
• How does MKBU compare with other colleges offering B.Des in and around Bhavnagar?
