Most B.Pharm programmes follow a similar pattern: the first year builds the foundations, the middle years go deep into the subject, and the final year is given over to electives, a major project and usually an internship.

Here that means medicines from lab to patient: pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy, with a lot of lab time. Typical first jobs: pharmacist, drug-safety or regulatory associate, or medical representative. Many graduates also go on to a master's degree.

The exact syllabus is set by the college or its affiliating university and changes from year to year, so ask Joy University for the current semester-wise plan.

• Are you genuinely interested in medicines from lab to patient? You will spend 4 years on it.
• Can you manage ₹4.8 lakh over the course, plus hostel and living costs? Ask about scholarships and education loans.
• What do recent graduates of this course actually go on to do?
• How does Joy University compare with other colleges offering B.Pharm in and around Tirunelveli?
