Most Ph.D programmes follow a similar pattern: the first year builds the foundations, the middle years go deep into the subject, and the final year is given over to electives, a major project and usually an internship.

Here that means software development, databases, web technologies and networking, with more weight on applying computing to business systems. Typical first jobs: software developer, IT consultant, network or systems administrator.

The exact syllabus is set by the college or its affiliating university and changes from year to year, so ask JK Lakshmipat University for the current semester-wise plan.

JK Lakshmipat University has not published a fee for Ph.D in Information Technology on our record yet. When you ask, ask for the total across all 2 years — not just the first-year figure — and whether hostel and exam fees are included.

To get into Ph.D in Information Technology, you usually need a master's degree in a related subject.
